Testing, testing…is this how I contribute to the discussion? Are there discussions that I’m not seeing? Help!

Yes! You’re in the right place. Each week I’ll post a new thread with different questions or topics that you can comment on. If you have questions about the challenge for me, this is also a great place to ask them…chances are others will have the same question 🙂
If you notice on the top, there is a ‘sun salutations’ link that will show you modification videos to either make it a little easier or a little harder. Check it out!

Assuming I am doing this right…I am currently consuming my “last meal” of peanut butter coated pancakes with real maple syrup. I know that is probably not the right ways to view this…as my last moment of joy…but if I don’t make those things off-limits, I will never gain control of my eating. And it is…totally…out of control. Two years ago I weighed thirty pounds less than I do right now and I aim to get back down there again…the right way…and stay put.

I found myself doing the same thing. (mine is a glass of wine – I’m very jealous of the pancakes) Complete deprivation is never good, so be sure to allow yourself to “cheat” once in awhile to ensure longterm success. Moderation is key. (I’m directing this to everyone…) I think most people battle this same issue, and a lot of us are in the same boat, which is wonderful to encourage each other.
Thanks for being the first commenter, Keri!

hey! I’m in! OK, last night I had Guinness and I savored it too. I have become a sloth… and I am so ready to turn around and feel good again! I started this day with a protein smoothie and I’m going to Zumba class this morning. My problem has mainly been lack of exercise – I am thankful for the challenge to get me motivated. I had to get up at 4 this morning so i didn’t get my sleep. My BIG lesson today is that I need to do what’s right for me, regardless of what is going on with everyone else in my world… thinking about not having my own space- then I think of you, Keri. I’m glad you are here. You inspire me!

i just downloaded a Calorie counter toolbar from Mozilla Firefox. It’s got all kinds of stuff to help stay on track.yay!

    • Vinter Vigglov Wellness Challenge January 25, 2012 / 9:31 pm

Thanks for the tip about the Firefox calorie counter! I really like MyFitnessPal – I can use it online or on my ipad. This one is nice because at the end of each day, it says “if every day is like today, you will weigh _____ in 2 weeks” or something like that, which is very motivating.

I am excited to start the challenge! I have tried several times to get back on track with my exercising habits since Rhylie was born. I suppose I always considered getting out and going to the gym a luxury when there were so many things that needed tended to at home and simply put it on the back burner. Then my accident happened and an entire new set of factors kept me away. I was excited to hear about the challenge starting up because I knew if I joined I would be even more motivated to get up and concentrate on doing something for myself. THANKS EVERYONE 🙂

    • Terri January 25, 2012 / 5:46 pm

It was so great to see you Triva! You were the best partner and motivator- back when you WON the challenge :o)! You have been though so much and still you remain such a light. I am thrilled that we’ll get to spend some time together again.

      • Triva Evans January 25, 2012 / 11:32 pm

Thank you Terri 🙂 I was thrilled to see you too! I don’t have as much time to spend at the gym that I used to but I think you and I are going to kick this challenge in the butt just like we did before!

  6. Danielle January 24, 2012 / 6:12 pm

I am excited for this years challenge! I signed up last year and did not follow through, it is one of my goals this time, to finish. I have been pretty bad about getting myself to workout, I can always come up with an excuse of why I cant. Sugar loves me, I swear it just follows me around 😉 I have a hard time withstanding a sugar craving. So I feel lucky to be part of such a wonderful group to help me loose the excuses and leave sugar behind. Yay!!

  7. Jamie Oskolkoff January 29, 2012 / 10:09 pm

Well I made it through the first week. Feeling pretty good my muscles are not so sore anymore and I have more energy. Hoping to loose a few pounds, build some muscle, & change my eating habits so I can live heart healthy as I approach the big 50. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night at the potluck.

  8. Vinter Vigglov Wellness Challenge January 30, 2012 / 12:41 am

Well, this week was a bust for me, since I got a terrible head cold/sore throat on Tuesday and am just now feeling back to normal today (Sunday!). Ugh. So, I did not go to work Wednesday-Friday to get better (and to not spread my icky germs! You’re welcome 🙂 )
So, without any gym time, my checklist looks pretty pathetic… but, I did do some things this week, like complete my food journal, definitely drank enough water, and definitely DEFINITELY got enough sleep each night. *Yay sleep!* I wanted to share with you all what I chose to do for my Eco-Wellness point this week. I was in town Tuesday for CPR training and I got some supplies to fix our frozen pipes at Home Depot. While I was there, I got a new outdoor timer for my car extension cord to plug into – this way, my car will only be “plugged in” during certain hours – saving me money and the environment! I also found a really neat energy-saving power bar. It has two “always on” outlets, and the rest are on a remote switch. So…. you can plug your computer and printer into the power bar and your router into the always-on part – then only switch the power bar on when you need to actually use your computer or printer. For me, I plugged my DVR into the always-on part, and my TV and game consoles into the other part controlled by the switch. I put the remote on the wall by my light switch that I turn off before going to bed. I’m pretty excited about it. It was only $40, and it’ll save me money in the long run. (TVs or other devices in standby mode still use electricity…constantly) Anyway, that’s how I got my Eco-Well point this week. Can’t wait to hear what you all did at the potluck tomorrow!

  9. Shirley Chihuly January 31, 2012 / 12:26 am

I could not get into this site today. I am on it now. I had a terrible week. I didn’t get in enough exercise, water, although I did breath and floss (have to do that frequently with my bridges). I am glad to be doing this challenge again. I look forward to meeting each week. The food was fantastic this week. I enjoyed everything. Thank you, thank you everyone! I forgot to make my Sassy water tonight, but will make it in the morning. I love Sassy water, it sure makes it easier to drink your 8 cups. Thanks Brie, Vanessa, Alex and Emily, it is going to be fun! Good luck to everyone this week and have a great week. ~Shirley~

    • Vinter Vigglov Wellness Challenge February 6, 2012 / 4:08 pm

So glad you’re in the challenge again, Shirley! Hopefully your checklists will show improvement. I hope you feel better soon!

  10. Paul Warner January 31, 2012 / 10:10 pm

I was able to make it to the gym 4 times. I was happy with that for the first week.

  11. Triva Evans February 2, 2012 / 1:48 pm

I have been trying so hard to get to the gym! This happens to be the 2nd day I am stuck at home because my driveway decided to eat all of our vehicles. It is frusterating because I have all of the motivation and none of the means. So i just work on my core and do the sun sal’s and if Rhylie goes into a deep nap I can try a few minutes on the elliptical here.

  12. Triva Evans February 4, 2012 / 3:14 pm

Still snowed in! This weather is crazy. It is pretty today so hopefully I’ll be able to leave my house next week. I was unable to get to the gym at all BUT I did manage to workout at home a little. Hooray for me! Sure I didn’t get any checks for it but I did stay on track and that is all that counts 🙂

    • Keri Collins Riley February 6, 2012 / 4:04 pm

GOOD FOR YOU! I’m impressed with your dedication to workout, even when you are trapped by snow!

    • Vinter Vigglov Wellness Challenge February 6, 2012 / 4:09 pm

Such a bummer that you’re trapped, but that’s awesome that you worked out at home! Hope you’re not stuck at home anymore so you can get some gym points. :]

  13. Keri Collins Riley February 6, 2012 / 4:03 pm

Looking over the above list on Eco friendly ideas, I’m actually shocked at how many of them I am already doing! I didn’t think of them as eco friendly…just common sense…and am excited to be more earth friendly than I thought! haha

This challenge is EXCELLENT for me. I am keeping track and doing things I have not done in ages. I’m flossing, for gosh sakes!! hahaa

I love that even at 11 at night I am crawling across the floor doing yoga…and not letting myself go a day without getting those points in. I am NOT dieting…so am not really losing “weight” but I can feel my body changing for the better, no doubt.
    WOOT!

    • Vinter Vigglov Wellness Challenge February 6, 2012 / 4:13 pm

Diet is such an UGLY word! :] So excited that you’re enjoying the challenge and that you’re feeling results! That must be really encouraging!
It’s great that you’re already doing the eco-well tips I posted. That’s awesome. You may have to find something else to do to earn your point! 🙂

    • Terri leman February 6, 2012 / 4:14 pm

So good to read your commeny Keri! you are doing great! I on the other hand….not so great. Many distractions and just have not been engaged -with ME! Gotta keep on keepin on…

  14. Keri Collins Riley February 6, 2012 / 4:24 pm

    Gluten Free Fruit Pancakes!
This are unbelievably good…especially when I eat them with REAL maple syrup…not the pure sugar kind.

    2 eggs
    1 cup dry oatmeal
    1 cup fruit…blueberries, bananas, strawberries…whatever
Blend until it looks like a smoothie.
Pour on griddle and cook like a pancake! You won’t believe it!!!

    • Triva Evans February 6, 2012 / 7:04 pm

Oh my goodness those sounds soo yummy! I will be making those this week for sure.

    • Triva Evans February 8, 2012 / 10:18 pm

I made those pancakes for my family this morning and EVERYONE loved them. They are so simple and amazing. New favorite breakfast.

  15. Danielle February 6, 2012 / 8:21 pm

Those pancakes sound super yummy!! Can not wait to try them at home. I am really enjoying the challenge, and Brie you are doing a fantastic job, thank you. I am glad to have something to hold me accountable, and keep me motivated to be a healthier person. Also the recipe for the cabbage rolls is as follows:

    Half of an onion, chopped
    Ground Turkey sausage
    2 cup cooked rice
    Italian seasoning
2 cans of canned diced tomatoes with chillies
1 head of cabbage, (steamed, or boiled to soften the leaves)
    salt and pepper (to taste)

brown turkey and onions and add one can of tomatoes, season with salt, pepper and Italian seasoning, mix in rice. Cut the base of the vain running up the center of the cabbage leaf, place meat and rice mixture on leaf and roll it up. Place in baking dish seam side down top with second jar of tomatoes, bake covered at 450* for 30 minutes.

Now I get to come up with something made with barley… I have never cooked with barley so it should be interesting. 🙂

    • Terri February 6, 2012 / 10:19 pm

thanks Danielle! Your cabbage rolls were excellent! I can’t wait to make some! I enjoyed our potluck tonight, It was inspiring. Thank you all for keeping me going, especially you, Brie! Off to bed I go – to get my beauty sleep (check!)

Keri, You talked me into it. I want to get some of those timer power strips too. Next time I am in town, I’m headed to Home Depot to get some.

  19. Shirley Chihuly February 12, 2012 / 11:15 pm

Thank you Brie for helping me with strength exercises on Friday. I went back in on Saturday and did more. The challenge makes me get out and exercise at the gym. That gym is so nice. Ninilchik is so lucky to have such a nice facility for exercising. I got out and snowshoed today, loved it! I was sad that I missed the potluck last Monday, but when one is sick it is best to stay home and not pass it around. It paid off too, I kicked it. Looking forward to tomorrow’s potluck and to see how everyone is doing. Good luck everyone, we are all getting healthy and will live longer, yeah!!!! See you all tomorrow.

    • Vinter Vigglov Wellness Challenge February 13, 2012 / 1:00 pm

Thanks Shirley. It was fun working out with a partner. And I’m always willing to help if anyone has questions about the equipment. Great job coming in on Saturday – sometimes it’s so hard to do. (I made it in for 40 minutes of cardio :))
We missed you at the potluck, but were glad to hear you bounced back so quickly from your illness. Hope to see you tonight!

Thanks for your positive, encouraging attitude!

  20. Danielle February 26, 2012 / 8:36 pm

    • Vinter Vigglov Wellness Challenge February 27, 2012 / 8:45 am

Great job! It’s so hard to make the extra weekend effort sometimes. This is the last week, so I’m sure your motivation level can stay high for only one more week! 🙂 You can do it!!
