This week I called and talked with my grandmother down in Minnesota. It was great to catch up and she really enjoyed hearing about the wacky adventures that happen here on the farm.

For week one, I got my heart-well point by finally having some family time with my hubs and baby! Levi was gone for three weeks, so we’ve enjoyed a couple nights this week (without tv) just to soak up some baby time together without interruption. Crystal is growing so quickly, and I want Levi to have as much time as possible with her while he’s home.
I also got a massage from Elise last Tuesday! What an amazingly relaxing hour – it was very much needed and appreciated. If you’re thinking about getting a massage, DO IT – we all need to do things for ourselves once in awhile. I’m ready for another one already…haha

Thanks, Brie! Maybe you’ll win the drawing for a massage?!

yay – finally got a Heart-Well point (week 2)! had a nice healthy dinner (Barley Risotto with Beans & Greens, Broccoli Slaw and Pork), visited with and played ping pong with friends that we don’t get to see very often. Didn’t indulge in any desserts as I’m not a dessert person but OD’d on the slaw – love broccoli! I’ve really been thinking about a massage lately. I might have to treat myself…

This week I earned my Heart-Well point by calling a friend from high school. We don’t keep in touch like we used to, since I now live over 3000 miles away. We caught up and chatted for well over an hour.

Thanks, Brie! And Susan, your body would definitely benefit from a massage – you’ve been working hard! First day of boot camp tomorrow – here we go girls!

I hope this counts: I earned my heart wellness point by spending some time with my boyfriend. With his slope schedule we hadn’t seen each other for more than a few hours in over 12 weeks!! It’s been nice to catch up and spend some time together.

does a massage count as a heart wellness point? had a 90 min. massage with Elise on Wednesday (week 4). it did my heart well – in addition to my body and my spirit 😉

Here’s a great Molasses Cookie recipe that is gluten, egg and dairy free!

    3/4 c. sorghum flour
    3/4 c. white rice flour
    1/2 c. millet flour
    1/2 c. potato starch
    1/2 c. corn starch
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. sea salt
    1 1/2 tsp. xanthan gum
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    2 tsp ginger
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/4 c. butter
    1 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. molasses
1/4 c. almond milk + 1/2 tsp. apple cider vinegar
    2 tsp. vanilla
    6 oz. chocolate chips (optional)

Mix dry ingredients and stir. In a separate bowl, cream shortening, butter and sugar. Add molasses, almond milk and vinegar, and vanilla. Add wet and dry ingredients together. Chill for at least one hour. Roll into balls and in granulated sugar. Bake at 350 (I use parchment paper on my cookie sheets) for ~12 minutes. Cool on racks and enjoy!

I earned my heart wellness point this week by hiking to the top of the domes with my boyfriend and another friend. The view from up top was breathtaking!!!

I earned my heart wellness point this week by calling my dad’s mom. I do not have a close relationship with them, and I found out I have some health issues that are considered hereditary. I know they do not come from my mom’s side, so I had a nice conversation with my dad’s mother and found out a lot of information I never knew about that side of the family.

week 5 – earned my heart well point when I went for a two hour walk (again) with my hubs and the mutt – great day!!

I earned my heart wellness point this week by helping my boyfriend stack wood in the wood shed, even though I was very sick with the flu. It drained me horribly but it felt good to help him out when he needed it.

I cooked dinner with Alex. Did my sun sals and stretched with other challengers. Had friends over for a late night bonfire. Took a long walk on the beach. These were the most fun and easiest to do.

I went for a wonderful walk to the south point on Ninilchik beach with several other Vigglov participants this week

I hung out with friends at Nick Cooper’s party. It was a lot of fun.

With Mike’s and my schedules we sometimes barely give each other a peck on the cheek and run to what we have to do. This week, I said, “sit down, let’s just sit and talk” and we did. It felt good. Made my heart feel good too:)

  22. Brittany February 2, 2015 / 12:12 pm

I walked at the beach with Alex and the kids on Saturday. The wind wouldn’t let down and the beach was very icy so we shortened our walk and stayed on the roadway. It was still nice to get outside and spend time with a friend.

  23. Brittany February 17, 2015 / 11:14 am

What a week last week for heart wellness. I was able to hang out with many friends this last weekend including a family Valentine’s dinner. I made chocolate covered strawberries on Friday and Saturday for Alex’s birthday and V Day. A junkfood fueled weekend but a good one for heart health. Haha
