Service Points

Leave comments on this thread each week to share how you earned your service point.

Keep in mind this can be a series of little things or a grand gesture – as long as you are doing something to help out another person.

This week I earned my service point by donating. I donated four full trash bags of clothing and other items to the Salvation Army.

That’s great! Did you know that the Ninilchik Senior Center accepts donations for their annual garage sale fundraiser? I just went to drop some bags off there this week – they also give a receipt for tax deduction. They’re a little picky right now (Kathryn’s words, not mine) and don’t want any clothes – but they did take quite a few of my things! I’ll take the clothes to the Salvation Army or Helping Hands soon – they’re taking up a lot of room in my jeep. 🙂

I didn’t know that, but I will keep that in mind next time I clean out the house.

I’ve got a little random act of kindness to note. While I was The Buzz on Monday I got to talking about limes and lemons with a friend. He told me he’s been drinking lime and lemon water every day! It’s somewhat ironic that although limes and lemons are acidic, they help to bring our bodies back towards a base pH, which in turn keeps us healthier! While I was at Save-U-More today, limes were on sale and so I bought an unsolicited bag to give to my friend. It is so fun to pay attention to what someone is saying, and then surprise them with a little gift a few days later. Have a great day everyone!

I squeeze lemon in my water bottles with each new fill-up. I just do it for the taste – so refreshing. good to know that there are also health benefits – bonus! thanks, Elise!

This week I helped a neighbor out of the ditch when she spun into it on the icy roads. I’ve actually had to help more than one person out of the ditch, but this one I had to walk a half a mile to get to. Thank goodness the roads are starting to melt down to the gravel!

For week three I earned my service point by visiting an elderly neighbor and making sure he was handling the winter well. We visited for quite a while, and it’s always great hearing about his great life here in Alaska.

This week I earned my service points by donating my time helping a neighbor who’s storage tent was damaged beyond repair after the wind storm we had.

I haven’t posted on here in awhile – oops! (Not setting a good example…I know)
I went to the Buzz and bought and delivered lattes and americanos to four different people, who needed a caffeine fix. I was going to get myself something anyway, so I thought I’d cheer some other people up with coffee too. I love it when people do little things like that for me. 🙂

This week I earned my service point by going out of my way and making a happy birthday doggie biscuit cake for a nice lady who wanted to make her dog’s birthday extra special.

Last week!! No plastic bottles! 🙂

oops, I put that in the wrong section.
For my service point this week I helped a couple of people out by clipping their dogs nails for them, because they didn’t feel comfortable doing it themselves.

I donated some baby items to two moms in need this week. It helped them and gave me some extra space in my home. Score!

Great idea! I need to do that at my home too, not baby clothes but clothes in my closet. I always say I am going to lose weight and fit them, but you know….when I lose weight, I will treat myself to new ones:)

I made cookies for my classmates this week 🙂

I made yummy food from what I had on hand and brought leftovers to my co-worker. She recently went on a dairy free and gluten free diet suggested by her doctor. I brought her some soup and quinoua salad. She stole my recipes and says they are her new family faves!

Last week I made 3 big pans of cinnamon rolls. Two pans went for Bible study, and what was left of that was given to the class to take home for their breakfast the next morning. The other pan was for a dear friend who just lost her husband. I had to take leave from work to get them finished and delivered warm.

For my service point this week I made clam chowder for Nick Cooper’s birthday party. I missed out on my sleep point the night before since I stayed up after 1am to make it.

    • Shirley January 31, 2015 / 12:51 pm

I bet it was a great tasting clam chowder too. Thank you Brittany for thinking of great things for preschool. The kids loved the pineapple juice. We will be using the rhubarb jelly for our Valentine party (heart shaped peanut butter and rhubarb jelly sandwiches). The teachers at preschool had never tasted quinoa, so that was a great treat. You are most thoughtful:)

      • Brittany February 2, 2015 / 12:16 pm

I’m glad that you all can enjoy the things I bring. I thought Chris was a little weirded out by the quinoa. Haha. Hopefully AJ can make the Valentine’s party.

I don’t know why, but my service is always baking things. I made rice krispy treats at home this week for the preschoolers “R” snack. I also made a pan for my husband, who probably would not let me out the door without having one, so he ended up with his own pan of them:)

  16. Brittany February 2, 2015 / 12:20 pm

I’m starting to really feel my Italian roots kick in. It seems that my service is always cooking or bringing someone food. I guess we all know why AJ loves me, I found my way to his heart through his stomach. Anyways I brought some strawberries to Alex and Avah on Friday as a nice gesture. But this week I also picked a woman who was hitch hiking on my way to work. I don’t usually do that but it was a very frosty morning. I’m sure next week you’ll catch my service being with food again.

I helped plan a Birthday party for Alex this week. I also helped another friend out by picking some applications up in town for her.
